| Minx_the_Dog 2008-05-31 01:11:29 | Does the 6 track Tony sampler count as a release? |
| nyrival 2008-05-31 08:16:34 | I believe so. Isn't it only five tracks though? |
| Minx_the_Dog 2008-05-31 16:02:05 | My mistake, it is FIVE tracks, not six. Sorry . . . and I even OWN IT!
1) Some People 2) If Mama Was Married 3) Everything is Coming Up Roses 4) Wherever We Go 5) Rose's Turn |
| bem 2008-06-02 23:36:12 | my god how many gypsy cd's do we need. |
| nicwilly 2008-06-22 17:30:01 | why would they revive Gypsy on Broadway after only 5 years! |
| mr.scrimarson 2008-06-22 19:37:38 | because LuPone has to play every role that Angela Lansbury played so her loyal fans will worship her and tell her she did it best |
| Computerwhiz92 2008-06-22 21:05:58 | She's played two Angela roles. And it wasn't even Angela's role to begin with. It was Merman's,
I won't say LuPone did it best (and I am a huge fan), but she doesn't sound like crap if that's what you're inferring. So should nobody play Dolly Levi, or Sally Adams because Ethel Merman played them? |
| mr.scrimarson 2008-06-23 00:03:42 | Three. She also played Angela's role in Anyone Can Whistle.
I wasn't inferring she sounds like crap, I like Patti LuPone. I just get sick of her fans screaming that every role she plays she does it the best. |
| Computerwhiz92 2008-06-23 01:11:54 | Ah, forgot about that.
Well, if they feel that she does it best, who are we to complain? We have our opinions, and they have theirs. |
| luvwicked 2008-07-01 15:03:49 | I agree. A revival of GYPSY opening less than four years after the most recent one (with the amazing Bernadette Peters) closed is kind of "too soon" for my tastes. And I also agree about LuPone's fans. To them, she can do no wrong. But, as Computerwhiz said, let them have their opinions. |
| artrex31 2008-07-24 05:10:54 | Arthur Laurants gargantuan ego warrranted this revival, the last revival with Bernadette Peters was less than inspiring. I love this new production but original concept? No it's just Laurants trying to prove his book is the best aspect of this show. Of course it might be one of the best musical books ever but it is the whole package that has made this legendary.
I think Gypsy should come back every 5 or 6 years for each new theater generation. No one complains if La Boheme returns every other season to an opera company! No one protests is Hamlet plays somewhere every single year. Gypsy is no less a masterpiece. |
| 2008-10-18 21:42:12 | Amazon.com: The Gypsy soundtrack includes bonus tracks.Curtain Up! The smash Broadway musical comes to life in this all new cast recording! It's the new 2008 revival of Gypsy, starring Tony and Olivier award-winner Patti Lupone as the indomitable Momma Rose. This classic American musical by Arthur Laurents, Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim about a fractured family stars the larger than life, true Broadway diva Lupone heading the cast as the "stage mother of all stage mothers," determined to make a star out of at least one of her children. Four time Tony-winner Boyd Gaines is the beleaguered Herbie,a gentlemanly candy salesman and reluctant theatrical agent who loves Rose, and Tony-winner Laura Benanti is the wallflower-turned-world-famous-stripper Gypsy Rose Lee, one of Rose's two daughters. |
