Soundtrack? Is this from a movie or TV show?

This was music that was written for a Frank Wildhorn production that was geared to premiere at the Alley Theatre in the early 1990's. I suppose Soundtrack is not a correct listing. Not sure how to change it.

Actually, I think this was incidental music used for the play version of CYRANO that the Alley staged in the early 1990's. A lot of this musical material ended up on the demo recording of CYRANO DE BERGERAC that Wildhorn wrote (is writing) with Leslie Bricusse. I'm very interested in seeing this show onstage.

From what I understood this Tape was sold at the Theater were Cyrano was playing or was meant to be played. It was a limited edition and some of the songs ended up in Jekyll & Hyde like the "Love Theme" that became "This is the moment".
I think this is one of Frank's show's that ended up in the shelf, but this was once staged/meant to be staged.
And the Recording was released so I see no reason for it to be marked for deletion...

Recordings are not necessarily marked for deletion over concerns the recording isn't real, but whether it fits into the scope of the database. Material written by a musical theatre composer is NOT part of the scope of this database if it wasn't written for the musical theatre. However, you confirmed that material on this recording was reused by Wildhorn for a later musical theatre work.

No, but it should be changed to say studio cast recording. It is NOT a soundtrack (unless the production was a film.)

If there are no vocals on a recording can it be a CAST recording?

By that lign of thought neither would Karaoke CDs be here ;)
It doesn't have vocals because the show ended up not happening I think, but the cassette was maded before that, and "The love theme" ended up beeing "This is the moment" and you can find plenty of redentions of that song

Same with Edward Scissorhands - I would argue that that isn't a cast recording as none of the 'cast' were involved at all. And what about 'Contact' which I believe had canned music...

For as far as I know this cassette was the score to a play. Some themes ended up in the musicalversion by Wildhorn. Still I don't think a score to a play can be considered a cast recording. I also have no idea what all these karaoke cd's are doing in the database... :-P Just my opinion... ;-)
